Open Collab

This free web-based platform, launched in March 2020, enables real-time collaboration for graphic communicators. Participants upload themed typographic or image layers, which the intuitive system then automatically mixes with other content and displays. The project aims to foster dialogue, experimentation, and offer participants new perspectives on their work through these resulting combinations.

It has engaged a global audience, including internationally renowned creatives and students from over 150 institutions, through numerous sessions, particularly during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

The concept was developed by Patrick Thomas and Jonathan Auch, with development by Max Wohlleber. Selected sessions have included collaborations with Open Collab Melbourne, Design Indaba Cape Town, Maryland Institute College of Art, Design Manchester, Parsons School of Design New York, and Otis College of Art and Design Los Angeles.
